POLICE CASES.

Drunkenness.—John Calmin, an old offender, was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. William Steel, for a similar offence whilst in charge of a horse and dray in Princes street, was fined 10s, with the alternative of 48 hours in gaol. Breach of the Peace.—Charles Williams, alias Lock, and Robert Glister, appeared in custody charged with fighting in <31ark street at 2.10 a.m. on Sunday, and also with assaulting Constable Dnffy whilst attempting to arrest them. Both prisoners were strong builtmen, and of taller stature than the Constable, who gave his evidence in •a most unintelligible manner. - In the scuffle, whilst endeavouring to secure both together, his lantern was broken. For the first offence they "were each fined 10s and costs, and ■ordered to pay 2s 6d each for damage done to ihe lantern, with the option of a term of imprisonment. CIVIL CASES. JNicol v. Clarksoru—Claim, £1 2s 6d, boots supplied. Judgment by default. Thompson v. Lewis.—Claim, £1 13s 6d, goods delivered. Judgment by default. Turnbull v. Glover.—Claim, 13s, for groceries. Judgment for plaintiff, with costs. Hart o. Vivian.—Claim, £2 ISs Gd on a promissory note. Judgment by default. Leevers v. Finch.—Claim, £2 18s 6d, damage done to sheepskins by defendant's dog. Judgment for amount claimed, with 9s costs. His Worship remarked that it was the duty of every person who owned a dog to keep it from causing annoyance to other persons.
