Our market is so rarely enlivened by speculation that two separate articles having been advanced considerably in one week by that mciivi m something to i.ote iw quite out of the common. FJour lisk followed the course of the Melbourne market, and advanced to £14, after IGO tons and more had changed hands at £13 -the price ait which it has remained for about six months*. Kero--gene oil has advanced Gd per gallon, and is held for 2s Gd. We reported this article la«t week as centring into one hand. It eventuates rather differently, and is at present in the hands of two considerable holders, one of whom refused 2s 5d in bond on Saturday,; and is holding for 2h Gd. On Wednesday, the Ziska arrived from Foo Chow with a cargo of tea, consisting of 8388 packages.: Although the most recent advices from China are such a« to inspire holders with confidence : yet stocks are extreme, and we should be glad to know of a portion of the cargo of the Ziska being placed outside thin market. Meantime, with the slight inclination to operate which exists, the probable announcement of its being submitted to sale by auction furnishes the trade with an excuse for suspending all business. Imported alea are. not coming into request with that moderated vigour which it was expected would ensue with the summer. Tcnnent's and other approved brands keep moving oflf slowly, and in the ordinary trade lota, but nothing like briskness has yet beer* seen. Spirits arc still overstocked and dull — Hennessy's incase alone becoming materially reduced in stock. Holders of this favourite brand look confidently for a speedy advance. Sugar commands little attention at present, immediate wants having been lately met. The supply, however, in the hands of the trade must be soon again wearing low, and whites, as the season advances will, an usual, no doubt be in great request. In galvanised iron, there are no sales being effected. Ttumours of reduced cost in England have led to a modification of the nominal high rates, but the reduction is not sufficient to induce sales. In hemp goods there is no change to note. Wheat ha» advanced for prime samples to 5s Gd. Oat« are quoted, according to sample, from 2s Id to 2s 3d.
