1 Tiaiauu, November 13th. The November criminal sittings of the District Court opened to-day before His Honour Mr Justice Ward. Charles Duncan, found guilty of tha larceny of a cashbox containing money and valuable documents, was sentenced to three years' ponaJ servitude. Frederick Nelson, for larceny of a gun, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment-. Richard Parker, for an indecent assault on a girl live years of age, was sentenced to three yehvs \K-nal servitude. A charge against Alfred Smith, of obtaining £"200 by false pretences, was dismissed. Two other charges against tho same person were adjourned.

James M'Laren, storekeeper, was apprehended this morning on suspicion of stabbing Malcolm Graham, foreman of the labourers emp^'cd at Edendalo, on Mr Campbell's contract of the Mataura Railway, on the night of the oth inst. The two men had been drinking and lighting together all day, and in the evening Graham went to sleep outside his tent.
