Wellington, June 26th.

There is a difference of £250 only between the Government and Mr Brogden, in the latter's tender for the construction of the Auckland and Mercer railway, and the contract will probably be signed in a day or two. The Independent states that it is likely that contracts to the full limit authorised by the Assembly will be entered into with Mr Brogden, before theAssembly meets.

The Nevada arrived at five this evening, from Napier, but the weather is so foggy that it is doubtful if she will leave for the South to-night.

Auckland, June 2Gth. A company was formed to-day to carry on the pearl fishery on the northern coast of Australia.

The share market is dull. Caledonian shares have been sold at £17, Thames at £4 12s, Green Harp at £6 14s, and Cure at £1 7s.

Greymouth, June 26 th. The body of Freddy Hodges, the missing compositor, has been found in a snow drift near Inangaliua. It is supposed that he had fallen down exhausted. The corpse was frightfully mutilated by rats.

Invercaugill, June 26th. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court were opened to-day. Kee Chang pled guilty to three charges of selling spurious gold, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, with hard labour. In the case of Davidson, charged with robbing Kee Chang of £25 and a silver watch, the jury returned a verdict of " not guilty." A similar verdict was returned in the case of Ah Hoon, againbt whom there were two charges of receiving money fraudulently obtained.

There are eleven charges still to be disposed of. Ingpen's case has not yet been considered by the Grand Jury.
