At Messrs M'Landess, Hepburn, and Co.'s Rooms this afternoon were offered the new congous, ex Corypheus, from Foo Chow, recently transhipped to this port, and the balance of the cargo of sugars, ex Union, from Hong Kong, mainly consisting of low samples. Partly owing to tbe advance in sugars in the colonial markets, and perhaps as much to a better appreciation of this class of sugars, there was a fairly brisk competition, and the whole of them were cleared off at satisfactory rates. The amount of business done in teas was not large, a result not surprising when is considered that traders

hold rather full supplies, and would scarcely care to increase stocks at so near the end of the year.

The leases of the following Education reserves were lately sold for a term of 21 years: —That of section 31, block VII., North Harbour and Blueskiu, containing 10.^ acres, and which is bush land, was sold for an annual rental of £7 17s 6d (15s per acre), Messrs William and Richard Corkran being the purchasers ; section 2 of 47, block IV., Waikouaiti, and containing 43J acres, was leased to Mr John Law, at an annual rental of £13 Is ; and two quarter acre sections in the town of Oamaru, to residents there, at the annual rental of £7 7s and £4 respectively.

Government land sales as follows have lately taken place in the under-stated towns. A section at Naseby, purchased by Miss S. E. Lawson, for £4 10s ; three at Oamaru, at £3 each, by Mrs Peter O'Loughlin; and two at the same price by Mr John M'FarUne ; a section at Herbert, bought by Mr Matthew Anderson, for £5 ; at - Hampden, Mr A. C. Weir bought two sections, Mr John Prosser, hotelkeeper, four, Mr Dennis Maher two, and Miss Christina M'Kay one, at £3 each, and Mr .John Presland, one at £5. At Palmerston, Mr J. Johnstonpurchascdf our sections; Mr James Bruce, four ; Mr Thomas Davis, four ; Mr Thomas Donaldson, four; Mr John Morrison, two; Mr J. G. Carse, four; and Messrs Camp, M'Alister, and Stephenson, one each, all the sections selling at £3 each. At Hawksbury, Mr Dennis o|Halloran was the purchaser of sixteen sections -, Mr James Davidson, of seven; Mr J. S. Pratt, of four ; Mrs James Flanery, of two ; Mr Donald Malloch, of five ; Mr James Ann, of six ; and Mr James Denmark, of one. At Waikouaiti, Messrs Hill and Hogarth were purchasers of a section. At Waihemo, three sections were sold to Mr John Barraclough. All the sections in these townships went at the upset price (£3 in nearly every case), or at a slightadvanceuponit. Astothe salesofland in districts : At Otepopo, section 20, block IX., and containing 153 acres, was purchased by Mr Robert Little at 10s per acre. Section 26 and 27, in the same block, and the former containing 138 a., and the latter 142 a., were bought by Mr Dugald. Mr Ewing, at the same rate, in the Moeraki district, sections 1, 4, and 6, block IX., and part of 31, block XL, and containing 245 acres, went at 10s per acre ; sections 46 and 47, block IX., and section 43, block XL, the three containing 32 acres, were sold at 27s each acre, Mr F. D. Rich being the purchaser of thelast seven sections.
