SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.

(from our own co-respondent.) Wellington, December 3rd. Arrived." —Taranaki, js.s.,.from Picton. December 4th. Sailed. —Taranaki, jb. s. , for Lyttelton. The clipper banrpie Free Trader, noted for her fast passagjjßs between this port and Hobart Town, jrfriyeA from the latter port yesterday foraihoon, bringing news of the wreck of the Peninsula and Oriental mail steamer Rangoon, off Galle, on the Ist November ; also English news to the 6th November, which appear in another column. For papers and extras of the Hobart Town Mercury we are indebted to the courtesy of her master, Captain Robinson, on arrival. The barque sailed from Hobart Town on the 28th ult., and had variable westerly winds during the Tun across. Sighted the Solander on the fifth day out, and passed Dog Island at 2 p.m. on the 3rd ; had a rattling breeze along the coast, and was off the Heads at midnight, and brought up shortly after 6 a.m. yesterday ; signalled for steam. The Geelong proceeded down, and towed her up to anchorage off Deborah Bay, preparatory to the barque coming to Dunedin to discharge. She brings a cargo of Tasmanian produce, consisting principally of timber. The p. s. Wallace left on a special trip to Oamaru on Sunday evening, as also did the s.s. Maori for Timaru.

The s.s. Wellington was taken out of the Floating Dock yesterday forenoon, and the p.s. Samson was taken in for an examination and an overhaul.

The American barque Annie W. Weston is loading at Melbourne for this port. The s.s. Wainui is advertised for sale in the Sydney papers. She is at present lying in Port Jackson.

The steamer Baltic, recently built at Belfast at a cost of £130,000, for the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company of Liverpool, is one of the most luxuriously fitted vessels afloat. Her saloon measures 60 feet by 40 feet, and is provided with lounges of crimson velvet, marble mantlepieces and open grates, in which coals are burned, an escritoire, and a piano. The ladies' boudoir is a gem of taste, in pink and white. A bar-room is provided for the thirsty, and for those who are fond of medicine, there is a chemist's shop, while the culinary arrangements are described as perfect. The Baltic is on the line between Liverpool and New York. Missionary Barque John Williams! — The John Williams, after visiting Quiros Island, Fakaofo, Ataf v, Nukumelae, reached Funepete, Ellice Group, on the Bth October. She was to sail next day for the islands in the Kingsmill or Gilbert group. The captain reports all well on board. The Revs. T. Powell and J. Vivian were the missionary deputation to visit the islands. Captain Turpie reports a large quantity of wreck having been thrown on shore at the island of Funafuti, Ellice group, being chiefly the fittings and frame-work of a substantial deck-house, such as is seen frequently on American ships. The interior of the house has been tastefully decorated in white and gold; also, portions of beams and deckplanking, all of pine wood, and evidently belonging to a vessel of 800 or 1000 tons. The wreck has been in the water two or throe months. The first piece was picked up on the 25th August. There is no name, but there is a small piece of wood on which is cut in irregular letters, thus—" Geo. S. Towell." There is little doubt that the vessel was American-built, and of a superior class to the vessels trading in these seas. There was a large quantity of wreck cast on shore at the islands north of Funepete but south of the Equator. Funepete is in latitude 8 "30 S.. longitude 17920 K—S. M. Herald, 18th November.
