MAYOR'S COURT.

Saturday, 4th November. (Before His Worship the Mayor.)

Drunkenness.^-Ann Hardy, found in Pall Mall in a state of drunkenness, was fined 40s ; in default, to be imprisoned for 14 days. Mary Buddings, who had been remanded from the previous day, and who was charged with having used obscene language in Murray's right-of-way on the 21st ult., was ordered to .pay a,fine of £10, with the alternative of three months' imprisonment. Charge of Theft;— Annie Ockenden was charged by Quin ling, a Chinaman, with having robbed him of £16 in money, and several articles, his property. The prosecutor had lived with the accused for four years, and had had two children by her. On the 19th October last he left his house to sell tea about town, and on his return he found that the goods and the money had been removed. After-witnesses had been examined His Worship said that there was not sufficient evidence of felonious intent to justify him committing the accused for trial, and that, taking all the circumstances into consideration, the case was one that ought never to have been brought before the Court. The accused was discharged. M*Stout prosecuted, and Mr Howorth defended.

A charge of using threatening language had been preferred by Ockenden against Quin Ling, but it was afterwaMs withdrawn, the defendant stating that he would not molest the complainant.
