THE SALMON AT THE WAIWERA.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir—lmmediately on seeing in your issue of Saturday, the 21st insfe. the statement made by Mr Main in the Provincial Council as to the salmon bred at the Waiwera, I wrote to that gentleman as follows :— " Caversham, May 21. — Main, Esq., M.P.C. " Sir—According to the report of proceedings in Council in to-day's paper, you stated 'that on the morning of his departure, Mr Dawbin had fried and eaten nine salmon smplts—all there were in the ponds, in fact.' " I will thank you to inform me on what authority you made this statement, and to give me the name of your informant. (Signed) "R. Dawbis." I have not received any answer from Mr Main, so conclude that he had no authority for what he said. The statement that gentleman made on Friday is totally and absurdly untrup.—l am, &c, R. Dawbin.
