Drunkenness and Disorderly Conduct. —Edward Thomas forfeited his bail t>y nonappearance. Malcolm Martin and James Watson were each fined 103, or in default sentenced to 24 hours' imprisonment. Charles Brooks was fined 203, or default santenced to 24 hours' imprisonment. Mary Allen, who was described as a nuisance to the town, and who had 40 previous convictions for drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and larceny recorded against her, was sent to gaol for three months.
A Wife Beater.—-John Garvin wa3 charged with assaulting and beating his wife. He pleaded that he did nofc kaowwhithe was doing at the time. She said she would not press the charge if he w'ouli promise to keep from drinking. The Magistrate told the accused that he wa3 a most incorrigib'e fellow, and should be ashamed of himself for his conduct towards his wife. He had no compassion for wife-beater 3, and would bind him over in two securities of LlO each, and himself in L 2), or in default to go to gaol for a month.
Byelaws. —Joseph Woodmore, for permitting slops to be thrown so thafc they drained across the footpath, was fined 5s and costs, and ordered to remove them. William Colgea was charged wifch having his premises, in Melville Lane, off Great King street, in a dirty state. As he had abated fche nuisance, the case was dismissed. Alexander Mcc, for allowing a nuisance to exist on his premises, > was fined 5s and costs. Thomas Cleary, whose premises were described as being in a very dirby sfcate, was fiued 203 and costs. George Metcalf, charged with neglecting to clean his premises, was ordered to pay ss. The charge against Percival Barker, for allowing impure water in his cella1", was adjourned till to-day. Johu Thomson, who damaged a fence belonging fco the Corporation by shooting timber across it, was fiued 10s and costs.
