In reply to the above questions we may state:—
1. Theßegulationsfor thesettlement and disposal of lands at Martin's Bay, in accordance with the terms of the Otago Settlements Act, 1869, require the Governor's assent. Ko public notification of His Excellency's assent tg the,m lias as yet been publishedj but there is no, doubt that it will be obtained. : 2. The f oUowingis a copy of a circular letter sent by the Provincial Government to parties asking for information :—•

' I am to state that parties taking up land at Martin's Bay will have to find then? way there at their own expense. . "''. i " A survey party is at present engaged in classifying and surveying the land. It is understood that the owners of the paddle steamer Charles Edward, the vessel which landed the snrvey party on the Bhbre of Lake JKakapo, intended to have traded regularly to the new settlement " Unfortunately iv coming down the river after land- j ing her passengers, the_ vessel "got auagged, and it may be some time before she is again afloat. It is expected, however, as the en-t---rance to the river is very good, fliat'some other vessel will take up the trade, should a sufficient number of passengers offtr. j It is intended to form a road from the top of Lake Wakatipu to the new settlemens, which will open up communication by land from Danedin.—l have, &c, John Loqajs, .."'..,':. The Government do not keep stores at Martin's Bay, and parties proceeding thither will therefore have to provide themselves with a sufficient stock of provisions. !
