At 2 p.m, the squadron being signalled from the Heads, proceeded with another aud a greater crowd. This time they were rewarded, and had a capital view. Captain Gibson, late of the barque Laughing Water wrecked in Foyeaux Strait, informs us that the only article picked up on the beach which he recognised as coming from the wreck was a file of the Newcastle Pilot and Chronicle, addressed to our shipping reporter. The parcel was found by a half caste and taken by him to the Opokuri diggings, spread oat in the sun, dried and handed to the diggers, who appreciated the Australian intelligence. A correspondent of the Sydney Morning Herald, signing himself "An Ancient Mariner," and writing tmder the head of " What's ia a name ?" points out that several .ships having the name " Isabella" have been lost in these colonies, which he considers a singular circumstance, as it is not a very common name, ' • or, at least, that there are numbers of other names much more generally adopted for vessels." He gives the following list, which, he says, does not con- i tain all the " Isabellas" that have been lost:—Ship with prisoners, lost on King's Island; brig, Captain Hart; now of Adelaide, ran on shore at Cape Nelson; ship, lost on Flinders Island on the voyage from Port Phillip to London; brig, formerlyl belonging to Van Diemen's Land Government, lost on Port Albert bar; schooner, formerly belonging to the Van Diemen's Land Government, left Newcastle for Hobart Town, was never heard of; barque, lost on Cape Barren, as recently reported.
