As usual at thin season of the ) car, a slight advance has taken place in candles and kerosene. The market is well supplied with the former, while of the latter stocks are light. The Age «ays :— In the import markets to-day there was not much business transacted, the usual inclination to await the receipt of mail advices having been shown BreadutufTa arc depressed, and sales are effected with great <li(nuiilty, tho trade bcint; supplied, and speculation dormant. Victorian country flour is quoted at Ll3 10s, and wheat at 5s 5d to 5s 7*l. The news by tho mail of a fail in the English market of 4» per quarter is expected to cause a decline in Adelaide. In feeding grains there is not much to notice, priuio New Zealand oats were quitted at 4s. Maize realises ss. Private telegrams from Sydney \ quote tho price there at 4s to 4jj 44. Tho short shipments of woolpacks, as telegraphed, led to an improved demand to-day, and a few lots were taken up at 4s. From Calcutta, a private telegram states that no further shipments of rico had heen made.
KoroHene ia utcftdy at 2s 2d for ordinary brands; one or two parcelß of Dcvoc's changed hands to-day at that price, and towards the close of business hoars it was reported that Hovon thousand cases of various rands had been placed in one line at fall rates. The public telegrams report a Blight decline in the valuoof petroleum at New York, but this was more than counterbalanced by the fall in gold, so that the shipping cont of kerosene ahowa a small advance. IJy auction to-day tho cargo of .'1,224 bags Natal sugani, ex Bella Rosa, waa distributed among the trade at an advance on most descriptions of twenty Hhillings per ton. The prices obtained wero from 27s lor low rations, to 39a for middling yellow ; 40s .'id to 42h for good yellow to low white. There wero also sold under the hammer 1,6(M) packages teai, gunpowder and scented orango pekoe, at from Is s id to Is Bjd per 1b in bond. Privately a line of good medium congou in half cheats realised is 7d. A parcel of a thousand bushels malt found a buyer at 10s 31.
