The brig Rio, from the Manritins,' previously reported as having arrived in tho Cross Channel, and grounded, was towed up early yesterday morning, by the Gcelong. Inconsequence of getting ashore, the brig i> making 24 inches of water per hour, and will have to go into dock for repairs. At high water she. was hauled into shallow water, close

to the Port Chalmers Jetty, and moored. The brig left Port Louis on the 26th of September, and had fine easterly weather until the Bth of the following month. She was then in lat. 3-144 8., long. 77.5 E., when westerly breezes set in. On the 9th the wind increased to a heavy W.N.W. gale; at midnight «h« shipped a sea completely filling the decks fore and aft, and the cabin ; on the 10th, the gale veered round to S E., causing a high cross sea, which continually filled the deck?—the vessel straining «nd labouring very much, she was kept away to the northward to ease her ; on the 1 Ith a heavy sea struck her in the starboard fore rigging, and started rai hi and bulwarks. The ga) o broke next day, and hauled round to S. Fine weather was then met with until the 2Gth, when she encountered another heavy gale of two days' duration, which carried away bulwarks, started rails, and removed spars and boat from their bedß. More moderate weather followed until the 15th inst., when She again had tho misfortune of meeting with another gale, which carried away more of her bulwarks. The Snares were rounded on the morning of the 20th, and was off Cape Saunders on the 22nd, but owing to the strong S.W. wind then prevailing, the was driven north, And only arrived inside on. the 21th, when in sailing up tho Cross Channel she was suddenly taken aback by a N.W. gust, and driven on the Ice bank, where ahs remained about twelve hours exposed to the full force of the strong S.W. gale, which afterwards set in. On. her hatches being opened, notwithstanding the buffetting she has met with, her cargo seemed to be in first-class condition.

The p. s. Wallace arrived trom Oamaru at three a.m. yesterday, and proceeded to Dunedin. She encountered very bad weather during the trip. The Wallace tails again for Oamaru this morning. Tho ship Hydra, for Newcastle, in ballast, was towed to sea yesterday forenoon by the Geelong. The schooner Waihopai, for Invercsrgill, with cargo, beat out in the afternoon. The favourite barque Free Trader has made another of her clipper passages from HobartTown, which port she left on Monday the 16th, and made Otago Heads on Sunday evening last, but owing to the strong southerly gale, could not get in to land passengers, and bore up for Oamaru. On approaching that place, tho wind suddenly chopped round to N.W., and she up helm again for the Head*. On ncaring them wind again hauled round to R.W., and continued from that quarter until her arrival at Oamaru, at daylight on Tuesday. Her passengers were brought to Dunedin yesterday morning by the Wallace.. Her cargo, consisting of timber and jams, will be discharged at Oamaru. Captain Robinaon, of the barque, kindly forwarded us, by Captain Malcolm, a file of Hobart Town papers to the 16th Last., containing the latest colonial news. The barque Prospector, for Valparaiso via Newcastle, was towed to sea yesterday afternoon.

The clipper brig Chanticleer, from hence, arrived at Hobart Town on the 14th inst., after a splendid passage of 10 days.
