BISHOP JENNER.

To tlie Milor of the Otago Dail f Tiauta.

Sir—Tt is a pity to see the correapondence on this much vexed question all on one side. I think Bishop Jenner has been most unjustly treated. Ho has been condemned without any chance of defending himself. It is an easy thing to raise objections, and those attributed to him are, I believe, purely imaginary. They speak more for the aeal than the discretion of the writers. When those who are opposed to Bishop Jenner use such strong and uncharitable language, it clearly proves that their feelings have got completely the mastery of them. They seem unable to take a calm and dispassionate vieTr of the matter. For their own sakes, they ought to wait till their reason returns. Perhaps that would be trying their patience too much. No doubt "Merlin" thought he was very heavy on Bishop Selwyn in to-day's letter ; but to sensible men he only exposed the weakness of his case. There is no ono more opposed to Ritualism than myself ; but really I can see no facts to show that there is the slightest probability of it being introduced here, even though Bishop Jenner was appointed. He has not introduced Ritualism in his own parish, where he haa had every opportunity of doing so. He has promised most distinctly not to introduce it hero. Every one speaks highly of, his zeal and activity. These are the principal qualifications for a Colonial Bishop. All I ask for Bishop Jenner is fair play. Surely that is not too much even for his opponents to give.—l am, &c., Justitia.
