ANTI-SCORBUTICS TO BE CARRIED BY MERCHANT SHIPS. EXEMPTION*. Whereas by tbo Merchant Shipping Act, 1807, itis enacted that tbe following rule shall be observed reacting lime or lemon

juice, and other anti-scorbutics, to be carried 1 y foreign-poing shipl!, navigating between the Unit-d Kingdom and any place out of the same, viz. :—''(4.) The master or owner of every such fo ciga-going ship (except those bound to European p^rts or to ports in the Mediterranean Sea ; * and also except such ships or classes of ships bound t> ports on the eastern coast of America, north of the 35th degree of norrh latitude, and to any Wands or places in tho Atlantic Ocean north of tbe same limit, as the Board of Trade may from time to time exempt from this enactment), nhall provide and cause U be kept on board ship a sufficient quantity of lime or lemon juico from the wart-house, duly labelled as aforesaid" (that is to say, from a bonded warehouse, and labelled »s required by the preceding paragraph), " such labels to remain intact until twenty-four hours after such ship, shall leavo her port of departure on her foreign voyage, or a sufficient quantity of such other anti scorbutics, if any, of such quality, and composed of such materiali and packed a*.id k«-pt in such manner ai Her Majesty by Order in Council may from time to time direot:"—Now, therefore, tho Board of Trade, in exercise of tho powers vested in tliem by the said recited Act, hereby exempt from tho enactment above quoted, all ships Ixjund from any port in the United Kingdom to all ports on the eastern coist of America, situate between the 35th and 00th degrees north latitude ; and also all ships bound to any islands or places in the Atlantic Ocean, situate within those limits.
