Mes Axpenny reports that the Labor Market has been very duU during tie last fortnight, in comparison with past months ; but she believes it is principally owing to the insufficient supply of female servants, and to the class of females lately sent from the Home Countries. The most respectable and best trained servants at Home meet with ready employment and high wages; and it is a great mistake to send any other ona to the Colonies. Mistresses prefer to do without female help unless they get better servants than those at present in' the market. There is a great demand for firstclass general servants, at L4O per annum. Good dairy maids, also, are very scarce. Girls who can milk cows and: wash weU wiU get fifteen shillings a week readily, and are in good demand; but females from mills and factories are of no value in Otago. Ladies at the head of charitable committees will do well to observe this as a- rule in sending out emigrants. The male las or market is pretty well supplied; but there is always work for ajle-bodied, industrious young men, especiaUy those who can plough aiid milk. To such from L4Q to L 52 per annum ia readily
given, and wages increased after six months* service. Married couples, from L7O to LlCfl per annum. Female servants for hotels rate from L4O to LIOO per annum, 25s per week being the average wage for good general female servants at up-country hotels. Barmen, from 3Us to L 3 per week; barmaids, from 20s to 50s per week; grooms and coachmen, from 30s to L 2 per week. Gai> deners, 10s per day. Musicians of all kinds are well paid. Governesses, from LSO to LBO per annum.
