Tho amount of Customs Kovcnuc received to-day on goods cleared for consumption woi L 363 18a 2<l, the items being—Brandy, LI2S 6s 8d ; whisky, L3B 11s 2d; wine, L47 Is Id ; bottled beer, L 4 10s 31; tea, L27 ; sugar, L32 Is 9d ; coffee, Lls 18s 3d; drapery, LlB 7s 7d ; saddlery, Ll2 lCs lid ; snndries, L4O 18s Od. Very little has been doing in the import market during tho last two or three days; but a steady demand for general trade is maintained, and business has not been destitute of life. Market values aro generally maintained. Transactions in building materials have occurred, and the parcels of Baltic timber, lately in first liands, are reported aa quitted at prices exhibiting an improvement on late values. Cornsacks havo changed hands at lfis 3d to 15b Gd. In the produce markets no change has taken place. Townmade flour remains at LI 9 10s ; Chilian, L2l to L22 ; wheats, 7s 9d to 8s ; oats, 2s Gd to 2s 8d ; barley, 4s to 4s 6<l; potatoes, imported, L6 ; Provincial, L7. By auction, tho business done has been light, and without anything of interest occurring. Our Victorian files are to the 21st inst. :— Tho Argil* of that date reports:— We have very little business to report today. The dulneas and coldncts > f the weather seemed to affect the movements of the merchants and dealers, and so very little has to Imj reported. Wo havo heard of a sale of 2000 coses of Henncssy's casa brandy (pale) at from 28s to 30s, according to the date of the departure of the vessel which brings it, and the article may be said to bo worth from 31s to 32s on tho spot. Burko's stout has gone into the market at from 9s 4d to 9s Gd. Close on seventy bales of Tasmanian hops were disposed of at 2s Gd, and Rents (18C7) at 2s. Malt finds buyers at 9s 3d to 9s 6<L I Kerosene has again come into some demand, a cood inquiry existing for the neighboring \ colonies, for which prices (for goods to load in the bay) can be obtained slightly better than those on the spot, A good business has been done in teas, which have now mostly I passed into the hands of one firm The | market has certainly been improved by the I oporat ons of the last few days. In breadstuff's wo have little to report. Trade lota of Victorian flour continue to change hands at from L2O to L2O 10s. Maize is firm at 4s. There is some business in oats, of which th»ro have been largo arrivals from NewZealand, for which from 3s lOd to 4a is asked. We hear of nothing having been i done in tobaccos or candles. The sale of city and suburban properties by Messrs Greig and Murray was so far successful that a Largo number of properties passed under the hammer. For the Cellini street lot, next tho National Bank, however, having a frontage of twenty-live feet, only LI 80 per foot was bid, the reserve price being L2OO per foot.
