Daily Times Office, Wednesday Evening,

Export entries were passed.at the Customs today on lßJwts. of gold, the duty being 2s.

The total amount of revenue received at the Customs to-clay on goods passed for home consumption was L4lB 10,-s 6d, the items being:— Drapery, L3O 83 4d; Brahdy',l22 gals, L 73 Is; i ; entva, 49 gals, L 29 133 8d; wine, 49 gallons, L 916.?; sugar, 13,578 lbs, LlB 4s lOd; tobacco, 438 lbs, L 54 19s; sundries, L 172 7s Bd.

Very little business is doing just at the moment, except iv .the execution of a few orders for export. The flour market has not been perceptibly affected by the arrival of the Prospector from Valparaiso. A few sales of wines and spirits are roported at full prices, but we hear of nothing-of importance in male liquors. The arrival of the- Hero, from Melbourne, with dates of tlie 16th instaut, has not ha<i any effect on quotations, the intelligence having been anticipated b-* telegram from Christchurch. Messrs M'Laudress, H/.-pburn and Co. held a successful Bale of stock in the estate of Messrs S. S. and A. Lazarus—a fair competition took place for most of the wines and spirits offered, and tolerably good values were realized.

By the Hero, from Melbourne, via Iloltitika and Lytttlton, we have Australian intelligence to the 15th instant. The " Argus" of that date reports :— In the import markets to-day, the business done has been but trifling. The continued delay in the arrival of the mail, in addition to all tho othor causes by which trade has of late, been affected, has assisted to create the utmost .depression in the markets. Transactions have been 'small, and even the staples usually obtaining a large share of attention have been quite neglected. Early in the morning, the decision of the Judges in the crises pending against the Government on 'he tariff question was made known, and 'he merchants, with few exceptions, have been quite jubilant at so satisfactory a result as | that which declares • the duties, now exacted to be illegal. Sales of malt,' though not extensive, evidence the tendency of the market, as much as 9s having been realised for trade parcels. The demand for teas continues languid. A parcel of low medium congous, about 120 chests, changed hands at Is 4Jd, in bond. Kerosene oil, though obtaining little notice, retrains without alteration ; & shipment of 300 cases Nonpareil, to arrive pijr Victoria, was disposed of at 3s 9Jd. On the spot there is no disposition to invest at the present time. Sales of Saucel whisky, in case, are reported at 7s Gd. In breadstuffs, owing to the enhanced rates required, little lik.s been done : there are buyers in the market r,cady enough to operate, but as they refuse tv give the rates required, no transactions are reported. Country brands' of Adelaide flour have b'en Bold to trade purchasers at L2O l 5s stoL2l';' and town brands have realised L2l 10s ntt, with au upward tendency. Wheat'is quoted up to 9s 9d. Buyers of cornsacksWe compelled to pay 14s 3d." The Sarah, from JVlJuuritius, with dates to 11th August, arrived tliis morning, brings dates from England to 14th July. Sugar had advanced in London, and the market in Mauritius being sti.'l barely supplied with sugars of the new crop, planters were firm wiihtheil' prices, asking higher rates generally. ' Purchasers for the Bombay market had commenced operations, and prices of white crystals had risen 3s per cwt. There was nothing loading for the coloniesi when the Sarah left but the John Eystone."
