LATER FROM MEXICO.

We are indebted to the Mexican Consul, Don Jose Godoj', for copies of the Periodico Oficial of Chihuahua, to the 23rd of May, the latest dates received from that place.

The Periodico dressed in- mourning on the receipt of the news of the assassination of Lincoln.

Tl'e Government has issued a circular relative to the death of Lincoln. We translate as follows : —

" To the Government of the Mexican Republic, airJ to all its good citizens, the lamented death of President Lincoln is a source of much grief, on account of his eminent personal qualities; and because, during his Administration, the Government of the United States has continued in the most friendly relations with, the Mexican Republic in it.s days of ita misfortune.

" For the purpose of making a proper demonstration o£ the public feeling in regard to that sad event, the President orders that the national flng shall be hoisted a£ half-mast on all the public buildings and military posts the day after the receipt of this circular, a:;d all officials, civil and military, shall wear the badge of mourning for nine days."

Cortinas has again joined the Constitutional fcide.

While Negrete was besieging Matamoras, Confederate soldiers crossed the river to aid the Imperialists, and threatened to attack the' Liberal rearguard. Negrcte finding the place too strong to be taken by assault, and having no proper supply of forage, retreated. He succeeded before leaving in getting into one part of the town, where he obtained some guns and ammunition which he had concealed there previously, lie carried them off safely.

On the 17th May, a French force, 500 strong, were advancing on Zitscuaro, in the State of Michoacan, halting at the farm called Mauzanillos.

A Liberal force of 300 cavalry was detached to make a reconnoissance. Upon coming in sight of the enemy, the said force dasbed on him at full speed, and made a most terrible lance charge, in the midst of hurrahs for independence. The French were defeated, losing 16 killed and 20 wounded, and leaving behind several arms and horse 3. The routed enemy retreated to Toluca.
