Owing to the existence of an actire demand for all kinds of goods suitable for shipment, a fair amount of business has been done through the week. Trade for local requirements, however, still remains quiet, little approaching to speculation has been visible in such transactions as have transpired, aril but few goods are at present being forwarded to the interior. Two general assorted cargoes are to hand from Britain, adding considerably to stocks, but chiefly of goods which are now commanding tolerably ready sale. The flour
market has 'been stationviy in price, nnd operations have been limited, the demand being confine.] to small parcels for the supply of present wants. 1,26 to L 26 10s on short
terms is the closing price for Adelaide Chilian is variously quoted at from L2O 10:) to L 2.3, according to brands. A superior Provincial ground flour has commanded L2O. Sugars have only been dealt in moderately. Fine samples of Mauritius. of which the market is bare, being the only kind for which much enquiry has bten made. Such parcels as have been placed have been at full rates. A better trade has been done in teas. Numerous inoderate-f-ized parcels of medium and good congous have gone off; but low congous are very fully supplied, and dull of sale. Bottled and bulk beers and ales have besn rather brisker, pro- j bably in consequence of the early setting-in of fine weather. Some f.iir-sizei parcels, partly from recent stocks and partly ex arrivals this week, and not yet 1 mded, have been placed at fully maintained ratea—the !nst parcel reported being 50 hhds bulk ale ex Thracian, the price of which has not transpired. Stout in bulk is in moderate demand for shipment. Sperm candles have become rather scarce; and in consequence, holders have advanced rates slightly. Provisions of all kinds are out of importers' hands, and dealt in only by second and third hous23 at high rates. 12Jd cash has been paid for Sinclair's bacon, and correspondingly good prices fur other brands of bacon and for hams. Spirits have moved off in numerous parcels. Hennessy's case and bulk, Renaul t'a case, and other brandies, have been placed at the quotations of the previous week. Islay and Kirkliston whisky, incase, have also been in moderate demand, at unchanged rates. In i miscellaneous and manufactured goods, values remain substantially unaltered, and call for no special remark. We note a continuous shipping of produce (potatoes and oats) for the Melbourne market.
