AUCKLAND SHIPPING.
During the week we have had four arrivals of foreign vessels*, three of which have been laden with breadstuff's. The first arrival was the brigantine Hercules, from Newcastle, with a cargo of coal for Messrs J. S. Macfarlane and Co. The Hercules was the bearer of the English telegrams, which contained the startling American news. The next foreign arrivals were those from "Valparaiso. The ship Carmen Anguita, with 1000 tons flour, arrived on Tmsday at an early hoar, after a passage of 98 days. The barque Gavina reunded the heads about 11 o'clock the same morning with a curgo of about 12,000 bags flour und COO bags bran, having been !M days frum Valparaiso, and passed through some of the severest gales which have been 'reported here of late. She came into port in a disabled .state, and a board of marine surveyors having pronounced her unseaworthy, tenders were yesterday invitid for her repair. On the day following these arrivals, signal was made for a French merchantman, which proved to be the barque Telegraphe,'from Tome,Chili, with a cargo of 2722 bags oi wheat and 2275 bags flour. The 'IVlegraphe made the passage in "3 day*. Messrs Roberton and Co were appointed acents for the vessel as well as for the two previous arrivals. , There havn been two arrivals of timber j vessels from Kiipara during the week; two arrivals from Nnpier, with produce ; and two from the Enst Coast, with gum and maize.
Of foreign departures during the week we have four to record—namely, the barque Novelty, for Sydney, and the brig Drover, for Newcastle, on Saturday evening ; tho schooner Victoria, and the cutter Will Watch, for Tahiti, Ilorotonga, and the South Sea Islands, to Joad fruit, on the 12th and 13th. The barque Harriet Armytage and brigantine Mary Ann were- to sail last evening, the former for Sydney, and the latter for Newcastle. The "Novelty took 6000 hags of flour, ex Frances Henty, lor Sydney, as well as 120 Iwgi potatoes, and 20 bales wool.
We have had three additions to our coasting fl'.-et during the week. On Monday two well made cutters were launched from the building yards of: Mr David Lowe, Kennedy's Bay, to the order of Messrs M'Gregor and Atkinson, of that place. They will be brought to Auckland in a few days, to be fitted up with every convenience. Their dimensions are—42 feet length of keel, 15 feet breadth of beam, and 5j feet depth of hold. On Tuei(inj a neat looking cutter was launched from Mr Stone's shipbuilding yard, Mechanics' Bay, to the order ol Mr Fisher, intended for the Mangawai trade, aud named Quickstep. She is of 30 tons builders' measurement. — " Southern Cross.1'
