IN pfacine the above properly before tho public it may be necessary to make a few brief remarks relative to the previous working of tho Company. The Company was formed two yeare and a half ago by tr;elve shareholders, under the co-operative system ; two years of that time have been employed in prospecting and extending tbe works at a cost of upwards of £8000, which extension partly consists of a good substantial tramroad a mile long, a great part of which is of iron, a first class revolving 10-head stamping battery, with the necessary amalgamating appliances, driven by aa iron water wheel 24ft diameter, all in constant work and good order; a blacksmith's and carpenter's shop, with tools complete; 16 good working bullocks, 1 good draught horse, 2 drays, 8 waggons, Ac; an unlimited supply of timber within an easy distance, and in fact every requisite for working the claim in an economical and profitable manner. The claim extends 650 yards along the line of reef, and occupies an area of IS acres, 6 of wbiob. have been granted by Government as a reward for proving the existence of a payable reef. The stone yields from 10 to 13 dwts to tho to _, audi increases both in width and richness with the depth -the lower level varying from 3 to 14 feel: in thickness, and yielding, loz Odwt to tbe ton;; and from a few tons raised from a greater depth promises to give even better returns.
