CATHOLIC CEMETERY.

(To the Editor of the Daily Times.) Mr-I trust that a few remarks from me relative to that portion of tbe Cemetery appropriated for Catholic sepulture will not be received amiss by those more particularly concerned, or by the public in general. Till recently, I regret to say, the ground has been in a most deplorable condition, owing entirely to the want of funds. More recently— as a few subscriptions have come to hand— it. has been substantially fenced with hard sawn timber; the flax has been cleared ; and the land ploughed preparatory to being sown with grass seed. The amount ofthe subscriptions above referred to is about sixty-five pounds; and the expenses of the work just mentioned to about seventy-seven pounds; i.e., fifty-nine pounds for fencing by contact, and eighteen pounds for grabbing stumps and roots, cutting and burning: flax, and disging between the graves; the ploughing being excluded from these expenses, to whicb circumstance gratitude is due to — McGregor, Esq., through who>e trenerous liberality" in sending a ploughman, horses, and plough from the fciiversfcream ti work for several days, until the whole of that important part of the labours was completed; and who has moreover promised to sow the ground with graw seed when it shall be in a fit condition to receive it. t What remains yet to be done, is of great importance. I allude to the formation and graveling of paths, and to the laying out the ground in a suitable and proper manner. Before sending you for insertion the names of the kind subscribers and the amount of fch<ur subscriptions, a* it is my intention during the present month. I shall again see the collectors and urge tbem to exevfc themselves to the utmost of their piwer in obtaining further subscriptions. livery Catholic, rich and poor, I hope will come forward, and give according to his means, as the work in hand is an act of respect, I should say, indeed, of filial piety towards our dear departed, of whom we are not only to think well but keep their remains in honor and decency.

I hope also to see the numerous friends we have out of our community ai ling us to accomplish the good work we have in hand. By giving insertion in your paper to this letter you will bestow a real favor. lam, kc, D. Moreau, C. Priest.
