The principle of this system transverse, rolled malleable iron sleepera, iron checks or keys, fitting both sides double beaded rail, and rearing-on the up shoulder, raises the rail from its seat which vents abrasion, no holes are drilled through rails to weaken them, and the screws are so plied as to require no nuts to them. The adoption of this plan is in the junction of the rails or joints, dispensing with Barlow's costly fish plates, and less than onequarter the cost per mile. The single or double headed or flat bottomed rail, is perfectly safe and smooth at the joints on this principle, and can be used for the transverse sleeper road, if required.
