The principle of thus system consists of transverse, rolled malleable iron sleepers, rolled, iron checks or keys, fitting both sides of a double healed rail, and resting on the upper shoulder, raises the rail from its seat which'prevents abrasion, no holes are drilled through, the rails to weaken them, and the screws are so applied as to require no nuts to them. The rail supported without resting on the bottom prevents abrasion, no coatings are required, and screw bolts applied without nuts.
