DUNEDIN PRODUCE REPORT.
(Fromthe "Witness.") May 28, 1864. The ground is now in a much more favorable condition for ploughing, and the work is proceeding rapidly. Many of the farmers who had intended to have threshed out their oats, are now thatching it, determined 01 reserving it for an advance in price. It would be greatly to the advantaae of the farmer, and of benefit to the city, if a piece of ground were set apart for a market, temporary sheds erected, and certain days appointed for the sale of agricultural produce. Much valuable time would be saved, prices would be more uniform, the farmer would be enabled to count with greater certainty upon regular returns, and instead of, as at present, speculating upon his corn, he might by the end of the year obtain a fair average price. Farmers and gardeners residing within a few miles of Dunedin are reminded of the advantages they enjoy in being enabled to obtain various kinds of manure, which can be conveyed to their land by the teams which bring their produce to town. It is* this, with the vicinity of a good market, which enhances the value of land near all large towns and cities. It is to be feared that many of our farmers do not fully appreciate the value of town sewage and other manures to be obtained here, literally for nothing. The late fine weather has been most favorable for carting to the land. While in its removal they would~be conferring a great benefit upon the town, they would be increasing the value as well as the produce of their farms.
