Apply to Mr Hawkins, near the Victoria Bakery, George street. 20 SAILORS WANTED FOR TARANAKI. /"CONDITIONS under which Boatmen will be \J engaged :— 1. They will be enrolled and sworn in as Taranaki Militiamen. 2. They will draw two shillings and sixpence per day Militia pay, and receive rations for every day they serve after landing in New Pljmouth. 3. The Provincial Government will pay them besides four pounds a month from the day they land. This payment will be subject to deductions in the shape of fines for misconduct. 4. TLey will be required to work for the harbour department at any time or day of the week when required by the Hprbour Master or his Deputy. ! 5. When not required in the Harbor Depart ment, their time will be their own to work for hire or or otherwise for themselves. 6. The Provincial Government or the person engaged may terminate the engagement by giving a month's notice on the first day of the month. 7. Each man approved of will have to give to the officer enrolling him a promissory note payable on demand to the Provincial Treasurer of Taranaki, for the sum of five pounds, and his passage will-then be secured to him. The five pounds to be paid in instalments at the rate of one pound per month. 8. If _arried men come under these conditions, their wives and children will have to be left until the husbands have procured house accommodation for them, when the Government will make arrangements to bring the families.up, the passages to be repaid by instalments. In the iuterva', any sums remitted to their wives will be transmitted free of charge. 9. When a wife or sister comes up under time conditions, the instalment required on the promissory notes after arrival will bs ten shillings per month. Dunedin, New Zealand, April 18th, 1864. WANTED TWO OR THREE HUNDRED MEN FOR TARANAKI. /CONDITIONS under which men will be en\J gaged :— 1. They must not be over 40 years of age, or under 18. 2. That each person-approved of give a promissory note payable on demand to the Provincial Treasurer of Taranaki, for the sum of five pounds per head. 3. If any saving is effected on the whole expenditure reducing the expense per head, the same difference will be remitted in each case. 4. Every man will probably be eligible forthe Taranaki Militia after passing medical inspection, If enrolled therein he will be required to pay his promissory note by orders on his Captain against his pay, at the rate of one pound per month. 5. If married men come under the conditions, they will have to leave their wives and children until they have procured house accommodation for them, when the Government will mr.ke arrangements to bring the families up, the passage? to be repaid by instalments; in the interval any sums remitted to the wives will bs transmitted free of charge. 6. Where a wife or sister, or any single woman goes up under these conditions, the instalment required on the promissory notes after arrival will be ten shillings a month. 7. In all cases where a man is refused admission into the Militia, or prefers not entering it, he will be offered work on the public works at six shillings a day, of eight hours, which will be liable to the deduction of the instalment of one pound per month.
