CRICKET.
A match was played yesterday on the Orioket Ground, between eleven picked men of the U.1.C0. against twenty-two all-coiner.-^ who were brought together through the indefatigable exertions of Mr Simmonds, who acted a-3 captain, and Mr Bryar was the captain of_ the eleven, who won the game iv all but one innings, a; wiil be seen by the subjoined score The v eather turned out as fine as could be wished for, mid we were glad to ses so good a muster of of visitors on the ground. The play of the eleven w;is really fin-t-rate. Mr Merchant showing the strangers what he could do as a bowler/and Mr Bryar deserves praise for his wicket-keeping. If tb.e players were to practice' a little more, Invercargill might yet show up well iv the crickec field. The scores show that the bowling for the eleven was exceedingly good, preventing their opponents from scoring many runs, by wides, or byes.
