Flying Chariots.—Lord Carlingford is resolved to dispute the honors of M. Nadar, the French aero.aut. He claims for himself the credit of discovering the principle of aerial navigation, and promises that in a short time lie will make the " chariot,"' upon which he has been experimenting1 so maoy years, " fly in any desired direction." In a letter to the Irish journals containing this assertion,-Lord Carlingford says:—" We arc coolly told that M. Nadar is fo exhibit his giant'balloon to the world for the purpose of obtaining funds to carry out his principle of drawing balloons through the air by means of the screw. Of course he may succeed n getting his balloon to diverge a little cut of he direct course of the wind, but that h all; and f he attempts to crew against the wind the effect will merely cause his balloon to descend, by which he will have, the advantage of doing so without losing ga3—to expect any other effect would be absurd in the extreme. But I find in his statement- the first recognition of the principle of'the aerial chariot. He states his belief thaa something of the umb be used for fly; ing through the air, drawn by screw?. Surely he deserves much credit for his prediction, when he must be aware that I have brought that principle forward, and even anneunced its succss. I informed the scientific woald that on the lnse trial of my aerial chariot, that weighing 17 st, it arose on the air without any assistance but that of the wind, and having arrived at a horizontal position on the air, it remained stationary there until pulled do ;vn. Yet after this announcement the scientific world remained filent."
