THE GAS. (To the Editor of the Daily Times.) Sin,—ln your issue of ihia day, you stated that the street lamps went out at an early hour this morrtng in consequence of an insufficient, supply of gas I beg to correct this Btatenient. Buch not being the lact, but on inquiry I find that our lamplighters could not light the lamps as usual, and tnat his deputy omitted to light some three lamps, all others were found alight and extinguished at the usual hour this morning. While I regret the insufficiency of light at the "Daily Times" office this morning, I must desline ace pting the responsibility of any sin o' omission or commission committed in consequence, for although I had occasion to lessen the pressure at three o'clock a m., sti:l I did not do so to an extent that could prove inadequate for a proper supply oi gas to the town if the interior fittings were such as they should be. . . • -1 ?.rn, &c , . Stephen Hutchison, C.E., Engineer and Manager of Works. [Mr Hutchison is mistaken, as three or four of the street lamps ia Princes street were ex tinguis^ed, and there were other places besides the " Times" office»where the gas failed.— Ev. 7) Tl
