a .DUNEDIN LIVE STOCK MARKET. -Driver, Maclean and Co.'s report Bth ber,lß63:There is still a very active demand for good strong well-bred stock of every description, and the limited supply to hand has been disposed of at fair rates, although in most cases the lots brought forward were of medium and inferior quality. ! The following. consignments have arrived' clurinsr the week :—The New-Great-Britain from Twofold 1 Bay with 151 head stores and .workers ; Star of the Bouth, s.s., from 'Wellington,; with 138 head stores ; Dudbrook, from Newcastle, with-120 head, and 100 sheep; and the Mount Alexander* from Chatham Islands, with 31 head cattle, and 110 fat wethers. Fat' Cattle.—The market is again quite bare of beef of &ood quality ; late shipments having bfen landed m such bad condition. The majority of the stock shipped as_ fat, have been dieposedcf as stores. 130-head of.medium and inferior quality have been yarded:all of which were taken by the trade at rates about equal to our rlast quotations, from 60* to 65s per lOOlbs for best quality ; and 50s to 55s for medium do. • Fat Calves.—Fat calves are very scarce and mu?h enquired for. We have sold a few at from Li to L 7 according1 to size and condition. ./Store Cattle.—The demand for sirong well-bred healthy^cattle of good ages continues very spirited, and we find no difficulty in disposing of all the lots of this description that come to hand.. We have sold 12O.head (in thin condition), ex New Great Britain from Twofold Bay, at Lll 103; 30 head, ex Star of the Fouth, from Wellington, at Ll3; 40 heart, remainder of cargo, ex Electric, at LH; and 500 heid young cattle from 18 months to 21? years old, at LlO, to arrive from Twofold Bay. Provincial cattle are much inquired for, but very.few lots being in the market just now, we do not hear of any transactions having taken place during the week. We quote bullocks over 2\ years old, in good condition, at from H2lo> to LU ; mixed herds (Provincial), from LlO 105.t0.J813. Working Bullocks ahd Dairy Cows,—For the former there is now very little demand, and except for grazing purposes they have become quite unsaleable. „W,e have sold 20 head, ex New Great Britain, at L3O per pair; 14 head, ex John Temperly, at L2B per pair., No provincial bullocks oflering. Really good dairy cows, in full milk, are scarce, and much inquired for, and if well-bred young and quiet. are\ worth from LlB to L 23. We have sold a few inferior cows, r cxl Mount Alexander, from the Chatham Islands, at from LI 0 to LlB. : Fat Sheep.—There has only been 200 yarded, and the trade being quite bare they were all taken at evcessive rates. We quote best mutton from;Bd to 9£d per lb; medium do, from 7d to Bd. .Stoke Sh ep.—We havenumerous enquiries daily' for Provincial sheep of good ages, but we do not expect many transactions will take place until shearing is over.
