Only horses that have heen the property of parties -residing within a circuit of thirty miles of Black's Diggings to he qualified. Second horse', to save his stake. One mile and a half; weights to he handicapped by the stewards, and declared half-an-hour after the closing of the entries; second horse to save his stake; post entry. FIFTH RACH. (To start at half-past 3 o'clock.) A HACK RACE OF £20, Entrance £1. One mile and a-half; catch weights ; post entry. All entries must be made to the c^erk of the course on tlie ground, addressed to the stewards, enclosing entrances at or before 11 o'clock" on. the morning of the 9th of Nov., excepting for the Consolation and Hack Races, which are post entry. 1. The miners will receive their several amounts by 12 o'clock on the following day. 2. No entry will be received for any of the advertised races by the owner or nominator of any horse, unlesss they are willing to submit to the decision of the stewards, which will be in all cases final. 3. All parties visiting are especially requested not. to bring any dogs, as all such found on the course will be destroyed. Where jockey costume can be assumed the colors must be named in the entry, where such cannot be employed it will be deemed proper to exhibit some prominent color by a ribbon worn over the shoulder. This Company has been legally incorporated under the provisions of the Joint Stock Companies Act, 18^0, for the purpose of supplying the Town and Suburbs of Duriedin with water, upon a, capital of L 50,080 to be raised on a guarantee from the frovincial Government of 6 per cent, per annum for a period of ten years. The Company is now in treaty for the concession of this guarantee, which was empowered, by an Ordinance passed during the last session. The reproductive nature of the intended operations is evidenced from the fact that an abundant supply of the purest water is to be obtained north-west of the town, and will be made available by a comprehensive gravitation scheme, which will afford a constant high pressure supply of a safe and unlimited character. • It ii proposed to reserve 400 shares for Dunedin, and to place the remainder upon the London market, to be sold as fully paid up. An order will be despatched simultaneously for the requisite plant and material, to be executed immediately upon the shares being realised. With fa:r public support this project may by this course be put in practical operation within twelye or •fifteen months. The amount of the share" allotted in this colony will be called up in instalments over a period not less than nine months. .
