The leading: mercantile firms in Dunedin, and others interested in shipping, appreciating the services of Captain Lowden, in his capacity as senior PUot, and as Acting Assistant Harbor Master, have presented to his Honor the Superintendent a memorial, warmly recommending the confirmation of his appointment as A.-sistant or Deputy Harbor Master, an office which has lately been created, and for which Captain Lowden has shown himself to be thoroughly adapted. It is satisfactory to find those who are most intimately associated with shipping interests, thus ethibiting a proper care as 11 the selection of the officers upon whom the safety of so much of their property depends; and it will be not less satisfactory to know that his Honor and the Executive appreciate the representations made, and the services of so efficient and faithful a public servant as Captain Lowden.
