She is to be followed by the trig Koyal Exchange and Tybee ta the same consignee. The paddle steamer Betsy Douglas, originally built tor the Taieri trade, has now commenced to run regularly hetween Dunedin and Port Chalmers, for the conveyance of light goods and passengers. As a preliminary to the commencement of the new^ trade an excursion trip was given, a numerous party beintr conveyed to Port Chalmers,- and entertained on hoard by Mr Douglas and the agents, Messrs Baird - .Brothers.
For the past few days the weather has been remarkably fine, resembling much that experienced at the same season last year, when there occurred the extensive influx of people, by which the discovery of the Dunstan was tollowed. In.a few days hence a less extensive, but not inconsiderable, influx from Victoria is confidently expected ; one of the first sail ing ships being the Gamecock, a splendid vessc] caartered by Messrs. A . h. Thomson and Co. to run in conjunction with the Glencoe and Lawrence .Brown.
The hulk Thomas and Henry has been towed down to the Heads, to be employed in raising the anchor and chain of the barque H. L, Kutgers, which had to he slipped the other day, in consequence of an accident to the vessel's windlass.
