The two first horses kept well together till near the finish, when Ladybird put on the steam, and won as she pleased. iadies' purse. Of 60 soys; entrance 5 soys. Two miles, welter, weight f>r age. Gentlemen riders. Mr Redwood's Ladybird, lOst lllbs, (Redwood jun) 1 Mr H. P. Lance's Revoke, llstl3lbs, (owner) 2 Betting even, and 6 to 4 on Ladybird. It was understood to be arranged between the owners to divide the stakes, and to run the horses easily for the first mile, and race home for the second mile. Ladybird led throughout, and although at the distance, Mr Lance made a desperate effort, he waa quite unable to come up with Mr Redwood's mare. OTAOO JOCKEY CLOB GREAT HANDICAP. At the first attempt to start, Black Doctor bolted away and caused a lengthened delay. At the second attempt Mormon got off with a strong lead, Black Doctor close in pursuit, Shillelagh and Ultima next, and Golden Cloud last. In this order they came past the stand the first time round, and for the next quarter of a mile the Black Doctor still continued close to the favorite. Shillelagh then took his' place, and Golden Cloud made a strong but unsuccessful effort to join the leading horse. At this juncture it looked any odds on Mormon, but Ultima gradually crept up, till at the distance she was close on to Mormon, and as they entered the straight ruunine, she took the lead and won by a length. Mr Stafford's success was loudly cheered. The time was 2 mm. 1 sec. SELLING RACB Of 60 soys; entrance. 5 soys; one mile and a half. Weights, 3 yrs old, 7st l"21b; 4 yrs, 9st 91b; 5 yrs, lOst; 6 yrs and aged, lOst 41b. Tbe winner to he sold for £100; any surplus to go to the funds. If entered to be sold for £80, allowed 71b; £70, 14!b; £50, 2ilb; £30, 281b. Mr Cole's Young Alma, aged, £100, lOst lib ... 1 Mr Stevenson's Scrubber, aged, £50,85t 81b ... 2
Betting: 2 and 3tol on .Young Alma. Scrubber made the running till close to home, when Alma passed him, and won as he liked. He was purchased by MrM'Kenziefor £112.
