Since our lastreport a better feeling lias existed in the imirket, and some fair parc°ls of goods have been sent up-country. The Chile cleared out on Wednesday last, for London, with 29,977 ozs 7 dwts 5 grs gold, the produce of our gold fields. The next escort is expected to brint? down 28,000 ozs from the Like.Diggi'ißs, and over 8,000 om from the Dunstan; the old gold fields will not contribute the usual average. The accession to our population during the «veek exceeds 1,300 souls. Prices of carriage to the gold fields are quite nominal, but we quote L 47 103 to the Lake, and L 25 to the Dunstan. Bullock teavns are only required for the Dunstan and older digdnas. The neglect of the Government in not earlier providing a suitable ferry over the Molyneux has been and is seriously felt by our traders. It is to be hoped every effort will now be made to render the route to the Lake quite practicable. The'market is anything but overstocked with any description of goods, Fiour—Adelaide, scarce. Baook—ls 4H to Is 5d for Sinclair's, Coey's, or Cumberland middles, very scarce: Colonial, Is 2d, none. HA3IS—Is 5:1 for Sinclair's and Coey's, in demand. Candles—French full-weights, Is 2.W; Neva Stearine, ,2s 3^d; Belmont's, Is 2d; light weights very unsaleable. Market supplied. Tobacco—Jessie Brown, Norton or Crinoline, 3s 10s to 4s, good stock. Pickles—l3a 6dtol4s, pints, best brands. Jams—in lib tins in demand, none. Spirits—Martell's, Hennessy's, nnd Champagne Vineyards brandy, in bulk, 12s 6d to 13s in bond ; market bare, little sale for inferior brands. Campbelltown and Kirkliston whiskey in bulk, ss, in bond; in bottle, 14s 6d to 15a. Geneva JI»KZ, in bond, low duty, 16s to 17s case; second brands, 14s 6d. Rum, in bulk, W. 1., 3s 6d to 4s, in bond. Shovels—American long-handled of eood quality in demand: Ames' are worth 100s, Hunt's or Collins' 645. Picks—Collins' in demand, little inquiry for other brands. Beer—Bass' No 3, Lll; other brands, L 7 to LlO 10s. Market supplied. Direct shipments of the new brew daily expected. Porter and ale of good brands in bottle still inquired after. Nothing inferior will sell. Buildinc Materials — Scotch flooring, 353 ; American, 335; quartering, 16s; battens, 13s 6d ; 3 to the foot palings, 14s, for 5 foot box ; 18s to 19s for 6 foot box; galvanised iron, L 37 for best brands and perfectly clean. Exchange—On London at 30 days, 13 per cent premium; at 60 days, 1 per cent. On Melbourne at three days, 4 (half) per cent. N. S. Wales and other Australasian Colonies at three days, 1 (one) per cent. On Invercargill at three days,£ (quarter) per cent. Other Provinces of New Zealand at three days, £ (half) per cent. : Discounts—9s days and under, 8 per cent; 95 to 125 days, 9 per cent; interest on current accounts, 10 per cent.
