EXPLORATION OF THE WEST COAST.
(To the Editor of tho Otago Daily Times.) Sir, —I was rather astonished by a letter that appeared in your columns ot this day insinuating that I had said something detrimental to Mr Cameron. I have since read the letter bearing my signature, and which appeared in your letter of the 18th inst, but cannot for the life of me sec where I have spoken disrespectfully of Mr Cameron. I therein stated that '' I could not refrain on behalf of partner aud self from stating that Mr Cameron was deserving of the highest praise for his indomitable perseverance and courage.*' Now, although " Fair Play " finds fault with me for my letter, he at the tame time implies a doubt as to whether Mr Cameron ever accomplished the journey, by saying "if he really performed the journey," &c." ■ New Sir, so far as my partner and self are concerned, we never for one moment doubted the truthfulm ss of Mr Cameron's statement, and can only now reiterate the statement made by mc previously, that he is entitled to every praise, and '.if I have written a word that can be coustrued to militate against Mr Cameron I regret it. I am yours, &c, Saml. Simms.
