Government Notices. NOTICE. Respectinc Deserter trom the Army and Navy. Attorney-General's Office, Auckland, 6th April, 1862. FREQUENT instances having occurred of De sertion from Her Majesty's Sea and Lan Forces in this Colony, Notice is hereby given, that the most rigorous nroceedines will be taken against any person enticing away, harboring, concealing, or employing Deserters The enactments relating to the above oflence are subjoined tointeg^og. 1 Assistant Law Officer. CLAUSES OF IMPERIAL ACTS RELATING To DESERTERS. Naval Desertion. 10 and 11 Viet., chap. 62, sec. 11. And be it enacted, That every person who, words or any other means ■whatsoever, shall persuade any person in Her Majesty's Navy^to desert, or improperly absent himself from his duty, shall forfeit and pay the sum of twenty pounds for every Buch act -and every person who shall assist or procure an person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert, or impro' perly absent himself from his duty; or shall conceal employ, or continue to employ any person belonging to Her Majesty's Navy, who shall be a deserter, or improperly absent from his duty, knowing him to be such a desertor, or so improperly absent, shall forfeit and pay the sum of thirty pounds for every such assistance, procurement, concealment, employment, or continuing of employment, as aforesaid." Marine Desertion. 21 Viet., cap. 7, sec. 54. " Any person who shall, in any part of Her Majes y's dominions, by words or any other means whatsotver, directly or indirectly, procure any Marine to desert; or shall by words or by any other means whatsoever, attempt to procure or persuade any Marine to desert; and any person who, knowingthat Marine is about to desert, shall aid or assist him. deserting; or, knowing any Marine to be a deserter "hall conceal such deserter, or aid or' assist such .feserter in concealing himself, or aid or assist in hs rescue, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall,, on conviction thereof, be liable to punished by fine or imprisonment, or both, as Court be iorcwhich such conviction shall take place ay adjudge. Military Desertion; i 21 Viet., cap. 9, Seo. 88. i "Any person who shall, in any part of Her Majesty's dominions, or by any means whatsoever directly or indirectly, procure any Soldier to desert, or attempt to procure or persuade any Soldier to desert, and any person who, knowing that any soldier is about to desert, shall aid or assist him in deserting, or, knowing any Soldier to be a deserte, shall conceal uch deserter, or aid or assist such deserter in conealin himself, or aid or assist in his rescue, shall be eemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and'shall, on conviction thereof, be liable to be punished by fine or mprisonment, or both, as the Court before -which •uch conviction shall take place may »d«gJ«?»!
