TRE ENGAGEMENT OF SERVANTS FROM

THE IMMIGRATION DEV&S. We have received tku two following letters upon this subject. (To the. Editor of the Daily Times.) Sir, —We write 11 call tue attention of the la-lies and gent'e rev of Dunedin. ou the coudu^t of Miss liye towards the 27 girls wh.> came in tlie same ship, but not of htr party. We thought that the matroii in charge of the barrcick-j (who serins to show partiality to none), would I'ave the eniiaxiiigofaUidiKej but since we have arrived, we find out mat Miss lt,e has entirely takeu th-3 power out of hex- bauds, by putting her own girls .forward aud keeping us iv the back irroun'J. There are many gi.la by other ships who stand iv the same position as ourselves, and complain very much of the injustice since the arrival of the John Duncan ; and there are two la iy frieuds of iUiss Rye who see the peopl'i a? they enter the door, and they engage their girls, null we never gee the pivrtiea requiring servants. Should they continue, j we shall never get situations through th'j matron uui til Miss Kye gets all her girls oiEj or it is put a stop to. Emigrants' Barracks, February 17th. (To the Editor of the Dailt Time 3.) Sir, — We girls by the feliips who have arrived here before the John Duncan, have to call attention of the public of the Colony, to the conduct, of Miss Rye and her two friends, who setin to have taken the power of engaging entirely out of the Matrou's hands, and none has the chance of a situation but l»er own party, for they seize them as they enter, ad push us back if we attempt to come forward. We thought the Matron in charge ha i the management, but since Miss Eye's arrival, she ha> taken it completely out of her hands, and we wonder if it is to continue, or if the ladies nnd gentlemen of Dunediu will engage from Miss Kye or the proper person. Emigration Depot, loth Kfilwiiry.

POSTAL AKKANU-KM.KNTS. (To the Editor of the DAii.it Times.) Sir, —Would you favor me with space in your paper for suggesting to the Postmaster here the necessity of making the public acquainted with all arrangements of his department affecting themselves.

I posted a letter in the George-street sub-offifle at half-past 12, for the mail closiu<r at the General at 2 to-day, and was very much chagrined and disappointed when I was informed that all letters must bo in the bos by 12. I was of course unable to get it returned then, and my experience forbade the attempt to obtain it by an application at the head office. Two hours is surely too much to claim for outlying boxes, especially on a home mail day, -when halfau-hour would be amply sufficient. But even if the hour of dosing must be 12 why uot make a point of referring to the fact as a guide to all as well as to new comers, when the closing of the box at the General Office is male known by advertisement. This ousht to be done ; but what ought to be and what will be seem hopelfssiy apart, hoc in one case but iv more, as I can testify to my cost. It is true that tha town has a;rown very rapidly- of late, but the present postal abuses disclose the humiliating fact that ilwgiw-h of management has not Kept pac« with it. I believe newspapers caanot be posted at the rtceivhg boxes. I am, &c, Move-on. Moray Place, February 16b1i, 18"3.
