By the Omeo we are in receipt of Melbourne advices to the 28th January. We extract tbe following latest commercial reports from the Argus, 28th ultimo:—The making up of shipments to supply "orders from the New Zealand ports has kept markets active to-day, but all other branches of trade have been dull. The rush which has once more set in towards the New Zealand gold fields has at length begun to exhibit it* effect on up-rcountry business, while the town] trade participates in the dulness. Flour continues in average demand for shipment,and rates of horse corn are sustained. By auction, Messrs Fraser and Coheu sold the cargo of the Rudolph, from Mauritius, and tbe residue of the cargo ex Msyotte, from the same port, consisting together of about 4.800 bags, at prices showing a decline of 20s per ton on the rates procured at the lost public sales. Middling white crystal" brought from 35s to 36s ; middling to fine counter sorts, 28s Od to 30s 3d ; middling to fine brown, 24s 5d to 26s per cwt, duty paid. Messrs Greig and Murray placed at their rooms 1,300 boxes candles at the following prices —Foreign light weights, 10d per packet; Hale's full weights, ls to ls ijd per lb; Brandon's do, ls -Jd per lb; damaged light weights, 9ad per packet; lobacco, tens, (duty paid), ■is 3d to 4s Grl per lb; do aromatic, do, 4s 4d to 4s 7d do ; Liyerpool coarse salt, L3 12s 6d per ton ; canary seed, 4d per lb ; castor oil, in tins, 4s 6d per gallon: paper bans, 3Jd per lb; red herrings, half-barrels, 27s 6d each; white do do, 27s do ; bacon, ls per lb ; colonial flour, all faults. L7 15s to L8 per ton; Gouda cheese J(all faults), BJd to BJd per lb; Renault's pnle brandy, lis per gallon. Messrs C. S. Ross and Co also sold by auction this day, on Australian Wharf, ex Marco Polo, all faults, 30,000ft l£in red T and G flooring, at 13s ; 00,000ft do white do, at 13s. Ex Lady Lyltelton, all faults, 30 cedar logs, at 335; 50 do, at 31s; 20do, at 31s 3d; 20do at 31s 6d; 30 do, a'. 31s 9d; 30 cedar riders, at 17s 6d per 100ft. Messrs Gemmell. M'Caul, and Co sold ex Ceylon, an invoice of Walter Heywood and Co's chairs, at the following prices : —Extra wood, 40s per dozen : Baltimore wood, 37s to 39s do; Washington wood, 43s do; Filmore white, 75s do; Lafayette rockers, 18s each; woodseat rocking, 102s dozen; oak office, 09s do; child's low wood, 383 do.
