CANTERBURY.

Messrs Miles and Co reportthe sale of 1,000 ewes, mixed ages, deliverable on the Rakaia nfter shearing, at:3ls per head; 1,000 wethers, guaranteed heavy weights, deliverable in the Timam 'district after shearing, at 30s per head; 1,000 wethers, guaranteed to average 001 b, deliverable on the Waiau, at 24s per head; and between 100 and 200 head of imported store cattle, all over two years old, at L9 9s per head, but subject to the purchaser's approval on inspection. There is still a good demand for well-bred ewes, but buyers of large quantities are disinclined to operate at present.prices. Our butchers are the principal buyers of wethers just now. We have one or two large mobs suitable for the Otago. market, which we expect to quit shortly; but the demand for this market is at present a little ea-ier.

Mr W. D. Barnard reports no change in the horse market since last week. At his weekly sale last Satday, the attendance was pretty numerous, but very few buyers. Two draught mares imported from Nelson, broken to all kinds ot farm work, realised L152 10s. Four Iwo-year old colts and fillies, brought each Llo, Ll6, Ll9, and L2O. Eight .ordinary saddle and lights harness mare3 and geldings, from L35 to L45 per head, at an average of L36. The prices for light harness and saddle horses are on the decline ; for heavy draught stock there is still a good demand. — Standard, JJec 11.
