Bankers: Bank of New Zealand. ■ > An ample supply of pure water for th» use of the inhabitants of JDiincdin is daily becoming a matter of urgent necessity; • and as the increasing prosperity of the Otagogold fields justifies ihc anticipation of alarge and rapid increase in the population of the town, this necessity, assumes an importance "which cannot tie'exaggerated. The streams of water which ran through the town, and which were once sufficient and suitable for all requirements, are. now no longer capable, of affording, nor is it desirable to rely, upon those sources for, a supply of this essential clement of health and cleanliness. Any undertaking which shall not provide largely for the present and future wants of this rising city will, in the opinion of the promoters of this company be unworthy of support, and it is with a, view to the fulfilment of this olject that they have decided upon availing themselves of the best of several sources of supply which are practically inexhaustible, and in which no engineering, difficulties present themselves. la order to secure the advantages of the advice and- suggestions of the most practical anu experienced engineers and scientific men in the Province, the promoters have determined to oG'er a suitable premium'for the befct devised scheme for supplying the town and suburbs with a never-failing and powerful supply of pure and wholesome water. Contractors of known ability and experience are prepared to undertake and proceed wkh the works as soon as practicable. It is proposed that the capital shaU be £30,000 in 6,000 shares of £5 each, with powor to increase the capital. A preliminary clepos't of 10s per share to be paid to the credit of the Company's account with the Bank of New. Zealand, upon application for shares; a farther payment of 10s per share on allotment ; and the subsequent calls to be made at the rate of £l per. share, aud at intervals of not less than two months. ' " i The Company will le incorporated under the. " Joint Stock Companies Act/ and be conducted by a Board of. Directors to be elected at the first general meeting of the shareholders in terms of said Act. The qualification for voting1 at such first general meeting shall be the payment of £1 per share, and shareholders holding twenty-five shares shall be eligible to serve on the Board of Directors. The promoters coasidering tbat the working classes and small householders are peculiarly interested in, and will receive great and lasting benefit from this project, anticipate fli'at every such inhabitant of the Town will consider it his duty to at once enrol himself aa a shareholder in the Company. As a medium for the investment of Capital, no reasonable doubt can be entertained of the success or remunerative character of the scheme. In England, in Scotland, and in the adj.cent colonies, similar under takings have Droved most profitable to the shareholders, and in a sanatory and pecuniary point of view. the advantnge3 which the inhabitants ot'Xhinedin will derive from a superabundant supply of pure water cannot be estimated till actually withiu the reach of every individual " In the single item of Insurance which now can only iv certain circumstances be effected, and at a ruinous rate, it will benefit the owners of property by a reduction of present, rates, of premium from 90s and 553 pr-r cent to about 10s and 6s per cent. la consequence of a similar undertaking' having been introduced into Mebourne, an extensive lire there is now almost an isi" possibility, while during the period that Melbourne v/as without its present ample supply of water, the loss of property by fire amounted io a much larger sum than'would have constructed several water-works of immense magnitude, and if immediate steps are not taken to prevent such a calamity as an extensive fire in this thickly populated town, it may devastate more property iv one night than the eutire capital of the Company now about to be established. _ ■ • In these respects it is impossible to estimate, the value of the works which it is designed to construct here j but apart therefrom, aud on sanatory and economical considerations, it is believed tliat^ an ample supply of pure wafer, permeating the ,town is of sufficient urgency and impor lance to induce the Government and the public most heartily to support this undertaking." Applications for shares in the following form may be 'made to the Secretary, at his office, - Switzer's Buildings, Princes-street, ov to the Solicitor, on or before 24th day of December, on which .day the lists will be' closed. * • FORM OP APPLICATION.
