SOUTHLAND.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

Invercargill, 23rd November, ISG2

The most extraordinary rumours have been in circulation here for the last twenty-four hours' It was reported that, yesterday morning, one of Pox s party had come to town lor provisions, •with twenty-six ounces of gold, stating his party had got three hundredweight^of gold in fourteen days, somewhere north of the Wakatip. I did not see the man, but saw a man who did, and he described the gold to me as being Tery course nuggets from an ounce downwards, lie said he believed in it, the man seeming a quiet decent fellow. The digger left town soon after shewing the gold, with a horse for one of his mates, who had knocked up on the road. In the evening this was contradicted by a Mr M'Gregor (I think that is hiejname,) who had came down also from the north of Kee's run, and was reported to have brought down thirty pounds weight of gold. I-have seen the man—not the gold. I was toldjthat one nugget he had weighed 18£ozs. He came in late in the evening, and promised to disclose all parculars this morning, he contradicted the report of tho 300 Ib, whether he knows where Fox's party are working or not I can't say.

I will let you know all particnlars in my next. Everybody down here are jumping, particularly as this would appear to be the first port of call to where these great finds are.
