NOKOMAI.

FIRST ESCORT.

We are in possession of later, and still more encouraging intelligence, from the Nokomai Diggings. A trooper arrived in Dunediu last night from the Nokomai, bringing with him 247 ounces of gold, being the first parcel brought to Dunedin. It appears that a considerable quantity has been sent to Invercargill, most of the storekeepers at the Nokomai being Invercargill men. It is estimated that they have sent down not less than 1,000 ozs. Nearly all the trade is done in gold dust, there being a decided scarcity of money. There are about 40) people located in Victoria Gully, all of whom are reported to be doing well.

The rush to the Nevis still continued, but we have no particulars respecting it. Snow was still lying on the mountain range between Victoria Gully and the Dunstan.
