Robbery prom the Person.—John M 'Derraott was charged with stealing £4 from James Williams, master mariner, of Wnikoiiaiti. Detfejivj TuckweU conductor] the case.: The prosecutor's story was, that having crone to the Prince of Wales Hotel, on Friday, to dine, he got ini,o conversation with the .prisoner and twoother?, and invited them to dine with him. Afterwards he'gave the landlady a £5 note to pay for the four dinners and a bottle of sherry. He had received the note during the forenoon from the Commissioner of Police, it having been lost a while a^o, and recovered ..by i?ie police. The, landlady gave hun three £1 note?, two halt sovereigns, and some silver,; which the prisoner saw him put into his right-: hand, wais coat pocket. An hour afterwards, he went into a small room, and. was followed by the prisoner, who took a seat on the opptsite sjtie of the table. The prisoner leaned across the. table, and he (the prosecutor) felt a sharp pull at his pbcketV He found that the notes and : hTilf-sov^reigns were pone, and he chargetl, the prisoner y/ithr stealing ' there.'
