ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE
(To the Editor of the Daily Times.)
Sir.—Having recently arrived •••'from England, whpre I have heard, much of tlie hospitality of the colonies, I cannot but sny that lam much struck with the want of it in the city of Dunedin. It is, I. believe, a custom for those in authority to become, to a certain extent, acquainted with the residents in the provinces in which they claim the first" rank, by means ot receptions. Now I have never heard of our bnpcxintemlent bavin* piven a Levee, a Fall, or a Dinner; but should Ibe mistaken, I should be only too glad to be setrisiht on a point, which, in the eyes of many new come" s, ca-sts a slur on the -whole province. Finally, I bepr to ask. whether or not the term "Society is obsolete in. this city'? ; ; „ ' Viator. Xvneiir}, 0ct.17/1862.
