_^». f l. Daily Times Office, /s''.> Saturday Evening. The City of Hobart with news from Melbourne to Bth instant, and the English mail of July, has fully occupied merchants' attention during the past week. From England, the news is not of very great interest to our market. A very limited export trade was doing for Otago.and neither gooda nor passengers were coming forward freely. In Melbourne it seems that the confirmed, news of the discovery of the Dunstan diggings had caused very considerable excitement, and a great many miners were leaving, and others preparing to leave for Dunedin. Freights were advancing in vessels for this place, but cargo was only coming forward in moderate supply. In our local market a little'more business has been doing, both in supplies for the older mining fields and for the Dunstan :— Flouk, of good Adelaide brands, is firm at £19 and we quite expect advancing quotations for some weeks to come. Horse Feed also continues very scarce and dear Butter.—There is hardly any of sofind quality in the market. ToßAcw.—Advanced quotations are asked and paid .by buyers; The stock is small, and chiefly held by one or two houses. The firmness in the Melbourne markets must tend to support prices here The Ordinance preventing the importation of cattle from Australia seems about to be repealed, as respects Gipp's Land,, whence y, e may soon expect tHeea considerable importation, of stock. Tn e wicrof butcher's meat is now so high; that were this obstructive act to remain m force animal food would be of such a value as to be beyond the reach of many of our community. The financial position of trade, continues satisfactory, with few exceptions bills are met punctually* and there is a cheerful feeling abroad which augurs well for business generally. At the same time there .is tin almost entire absence of anything approaching speculation, and even for regular trade, purchases are made with great care and discrimination.

"No* export entries for gold were passed at the Custom House to day. '

The Customs Bevenue collected in the Port of Duncdin oil thii 19th instant amounted to L 233 6s. lid. Amon»vt the items were—Brandy, 29 gals, Ll3ls; whisky. 151 gals, LOB 9s; sugar, 10,7481b., £44 15a 8d ; cuifee, 388 1b , TA 12s; tea, 450 lb., L 7 10s; tobacco, 5:37 lb,, L2O 5s 6.1; beer, 334 gals., Ll9 4s.
