POST OFFICE NEGLECT. (To the Editor of the OTAGO DAILY TIMES.)

pIR. —Permit me through the medium of yonr valuable journal, to make known another gross piece 01 neglect on the part of one of the Post Office officials. The e«e is as follow*. Upon tbe arrival of tbs August mrul from England, I called at the Post Office for any letter or letters that might be lying there for me. I was informed there were none. 1 at once left the window, at the sanaa time determined to call a^in another dny, as I thoaght it mo.it likely that m°the jjreit crush for letters, he might have overlooked mine. I allowed two or thre? day 3to elapse, and then called again, but with the same result. At tha sains time I was iv my own raiad convinced, that there wa? a letter for me, having ia my previous letter been advised that soaia information I required from home would be forwarded by la3t month's mail. 1 tanking that a third trial would be more fortunate, I called again, when 1 was informed in a very cavalier like lityle, that they did not m iks letters there. Yesterday I called to *cc if I should be any luckier by t^is mail, when, to ray utter astoaishment'and disgust, the letter I h^d called for so often, (and which had been lying in the hands of the party who so often rejiued me) was placed in my hands. No a', Sir, I ask you is this right, and who is the" party to see that these gross pieces of neglect are corrected and punished. Jt ist high time that the upstart snobbishness of the ; Post Office clerks, was replaced by a more carefal 1 attention to their duties, aad a more respectful de- ! weanoar ezercuel towards the public. I 1 leave it in your hands to make any comments oa I the subject yoa think may be attended with so desirabis a consummation.

I am, Sir, Your most obliged servant, _ , Tuos. F. Smithers, Caver-sham Road. Dunedin, Sept. I9ih, ISB2.
