We learn fromia privnfe source thatthe ship Jura, for this port, sailed, on the 17th June; but, as the captain did; not consider her in. good trim for the voyage, he put into Lamlash Bay ar.d discharged 110 tons pig iron, so that the Jura would get clear of the Channel about the same time as thß Cheviot, the latter/vessel having sailed on the 21st June; ;; The City of Hobart arrived at 7 a.in., bringing 218 passengers, a majority of whom are diggers who have been: induced to visit Otago by the accounts received in Melbourne as to the" Duristan diggings. She also brought the English ;matt^ which was transhipped from the Bombay, on the evening of the Bth, on the : arrival of that vessel in Hobsbn's Bay. The City of Hobart was advertised tosail oil* the afternoon of fcha Bth, but "on :ihe;Bombay;being;telegraphed from Queenseliff, her dep^turewjss postponed for the purpose.of receiving therioails.'and'she'did hotsail" till the morning of the 9th. 'The^iitiuaually long time occupie4 by the passage was caused by a con-1 tinuanceof heavy; easterly weather, which delayed ler so much that, after nearly reaching the Nuggets, Captain Darby; was obliged to put back to'theSluff, the gale from* the vnorth-east continuing at the time to prevail, with no indication of abatement, and at that place he obtained fresh supplies of; fuel and water. On her last ;passapje f up| the v City; of Hobart ■arrived on the .- 6ih Septeniher,, after, very heavy passage from Bluif, which she had left on the 29th; ;Afc midnight^ on the latter date, the gale which prevailed increased, to a' hurricane, and swept away tfie; jib-boom and" forecastles. On the way down also the^ssel^^bead-gear Bufered through tress of weather;^ ; • ;v;' V-" v,- Z >•■: v-7 ?■ ■•; t ti^kx: The Storm Bird from Wellington and Lyttelton, also arrived" in ihe niorning,' she had heavy northwesterly weather till reaching Lyttelton,! yesh sels were receiving of cattle afc; Welnngton

for this :partr—tho -Eflen Simpswn^ ".Remark,' anl" Valiant. The Storm Bird .has proceeded to town to discharge lier passpjigers arid cargo. Tue GuMiupr Star passed up to town In the lorenoon. Captain Praser reports that on the" previous evening, the ship Robert Henderson left the Bluff for <>tago. As the wia 1 since then thoujyh light, has been favorable, she .may be expected to arrive very soon. " " J The English mails \eceived. by the Guiding Star were at once transferred to tho Queen, and that ! vessel staled for the North at 4 p.m. . The Metaria, from Newcastle, with a cargo of coal, is at the Heads. She »u&Je a fair passage as far as tue boiander, but wcu. afterwards detaiaed by heavy north-easterly weather. Reports the Cincinnati, Omega, and Thames, loading or loaded at Newcastle, but not lor this port. The wind having set in from the S.W., the harbor wai thinned to-day by the departure of a number of vessels hitheYfco windbound. The Bsnjamin Heape and Sea Breeze are entered outwards at Melboqrne. The barque Sea Shell, with 133 passengers, sailed on the 6th; and the Lightning. Boanerges, Dragon. City of Melbourne, 1 Blanche Moore, and Hesult are advertised as on the i berth. A Melbourne &)rresi)omlcnt, describing the rush to Otago, just commenced says —" In half-an--1 hour all the pas3nge3 in the City of Hobart were secured. The Lightnintr was laid on and nearly filled before five o'clock. On Saturday morning half-a---dozen large ships were laid on. The news went up country by teleurraph, and now the diggers are coming; down in large numb-'rs. You niaj" calculate upon two or three thousand men from this within the next fortnight."
