Stuck Fast.—A little incident occurred at Lucky Woman's on Mon lay, which will give some idea of the weather and its effects on the roads. The wife of a miner was looking out of her cottage door and perceived her child at a distance crying out in great terror. Serious Mining Accident.—A severe accident recurred yesterday afternoon to a miner named Roberts, whilst woiking in the Victoria Reef Quartz Mining Company's claim on the Victoria Reef. Tke man was engaged fillinpr buckets at the bottom of a shaft, which Ls about 250 feet deep. The quartz is raised by means of a horse-whip, and it is supposed tbat Robert's foot became entangled in the bucket, and tbat he was carried a considerable distance up the shaft when he fell, but at present he is unable to state how it occurred. Doctor Atkinson was immediately sent fur, and on his arrival found that tbe unfortunate man had sustained a concussion of the brain, several severe scalp wounds, in addition to injuries ofthe arm and chest. He was atonce removed to tlie Happy Valley Hotel, where he now lies ia a somewhat precariouscondition.— Beitdigo Advertiser, A weekly steam packet communicatisn has been established between New York and California instead ol a tn-monthly one, as hitlierto.
